Perhaps leaving was good.
Zaru flew over the lumber camps of East City, staring down at the orange glow that reflected in his eyes. A large forest fire had struck the area, engulfing entire areas and endangering the people and animals all over. Zaru gritted his teeth, focusing on his senses as he glanced quickly over the area. He was glad that his family's lumber camp was on the other end of the forest. Not just because it would prevent their lives being in danger, but...he couldn't speak to them now. Not now. It would only go badly, he wasn't sure what he would even say.
The self-imposed exile suddenly dropped, feeling two signatures down there. Right in the middle of the fire. He rushed down through the trees, finally catching sight of them as he got close. A little girl and her very large, protective father, trying to keep her as far as he could from the flames. It was in vain, with the fire circling all around them and closing in fast. Zaru didn't even land, swooping downwards as he held out his arms. Under one, he scooped up the girl, and the next scooped up her father, carrying them with surprising ease, especially on the father's end of things.
Both of them just looked on in confusion, staring at the ground as they flew away from it. The pair got a glance up at Zaru as he rocketed up, over and then past the forest fire. The exile came down to the ground gently, lowering down onto one knee as he let the pair of them go. They still just stared in awe and confusion as Zaru returned a knowing look. "Stay here until the fire stops, and don't go back for anything." The little girl gave him a wide grin, and a small smile came across Zaru's face when he saw it.
As his Ki flared up around him, the exile flew back up into the air, eyes darting about as he sensed for more Ki in the area. Come on, come on. There had to be more people trapped here, even animals. But people first. Yes, people first. He felt more energy down in an area nearby, and it was definitely more than two this time. A family, perhaps. It didn't matter, he wouldn't leave them here, no matter who they were. As he went down through the trees again, Zaru wondered if this was what fate had in mind for him all along.
